Before Your First Visit to CSP: What to Expect at Check-In

Start with your ID. At Colorado State Penitentiary, anyone 18 or older must show a valid picture ID before entering. No ID, expired ID? You're not getting past check-in.

Because CSP houses medium or higher custody offenders, you'll get an ultra-violet hand stamp before entering. Staff will stamp the back of your right hand with a UV marker. Kids under three are the only exception.

When you arrive, you'll fill out AR Form 300-01B - the Offender Visitor Consent to Search Authorization. You must complete it before entering. The good news: once it's on file, it stays valid for one year, so you won't need to redo it every visit.

Searches don't stop at the lobby. Once you're on DOC property, you, your vehicle, and anything you bring can be inspected at any time. Keep that in mind when packing - what you bring (and what you leave behind) affects how smoothly check-in goes.

Refuse any required procedure? You'll be denied entry and asked to leave immediately. There's no skipping steps and still getting in.

The same goes for searches. Any issue during inspection can end your visit before it starts. The simplest approach: arrive ready to follow procedures and bring as little as possible onto the grounds.
