Bringing Cash and Medications to Your Visit at Columbia Correctional: What You Need to Know
A little prep goes a long way. Here's what Columbia Correctional visitors need to know about cash, prescription medications, and prohibited items.
You can bring up to $50.00 in cash - $1, $5, $10, or $20 bills only. Use it for snacks and drinks from the vending machines in the visiting area. One important rule: this money is strictly for visitor purchases. Never give cash to an inmate.
Need to bring prescription medication? You can, but only pack the dosage you'll need during your visit. Extra pills will slow down screening. Keep everything in the original container with a readable label showing the medication name, dosage instructions, and who it's prescribed to.
Warning: Needles and syringes are never allowed - don't bring them into the facility or leave them anywhere on the grounds.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Bring no more than $50 cash per visitor, and stick to $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills
- ✓ Bring smaller bills when you can, so you’re not stuck with a denomination you can’t use
- ✓ Use your cash only for vending-machine snacks and beverages in the visiting area
- ✓ Don’t try to pass money to an inmate - cash is not allowed to be given to inmates
- ✓ For prescriptions, bring only what you’ll need for the visit (not your full day’s supply)
- ✓ Keep prescription meds in the original container with a readable label showing the medication, dosage directions, and the prescribed person’s name
Reminder: If you use injectable medication, leave needles and syringes at home. Plan to handle injections off-site before or after your visit.
