Why You Might Be Turned Away at Columbia County Prison: Common Visitor Restrictions
Getting turned away at the door is frustrating, especially after arranging childcare, taking time off work, and making the drive. Here are the most common reasons visits get denied at Columbia County Prison, so you can check before you go.
If you're on probation or parole, you'll need written permission from your supervising agency before you can visit. That letter has to clearly state you're approved to visit with the resident. Show up without it, and you'll be turned away.
If you were previously housed at Columbia County Prison, you can't come back as a visitor right away. The facility requires a six-month waiting period after your release before you're allowed to visit a resident.
Columbia County Prison won't let you visit if you're under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or even appear to be. If there's any chance you could look or smell impaired (think alcohol or marijuana), reschedule. It's not worth the risk of being turned away at check-in.
Warning: Weapons of any kind are not permitted on prison property, including the prison parking lot.
Leave your cell phone and any other electronics in the car. Columbia County Prison does not allow them inside. Getting caught with a phone in the facility can get you escorted out, and your visitation privileges may be revoked entirely.
You have to be on the resident's Visitation List. If your name isn't on it, you won't get in, no matter how far you traveled or whether a visit was planned.
Your visit can also be blocked because of the resident's housing status. Residents in Administrative Custody or on Disciplinary Status aren't allowed face-to-face visits unless Administration specifically approves it. If your loved one is in either status, that approval needs to be in place before you make the trip.
