What You Can Bring Into the Visiting Room (Florida DOC): IDs, Cash, Meds, and Baby Items

Showing up with the right items (and only the right items) can save you a lot of stress at the door. Here's a clear breakdown of what Florida DOC lets you bring into the visiting area, including ID, vending cash, prescription meds, and essentials for infants and toddlers.

If you're 16 or older, bring a valid photo ID. Florida DOC requires one for entry into the visiting area, and staff will turn you away without it.

Keep your keys simple. You're allowed one vehicle key. Keyless entry devices aren't permitted unless the duty warden (or designee) visually inspects the device and confirms it's the only way for you to access your vehicle and doesn't pose a security threat.

You can bring cash for the vending machines, but the limits are tight. Florida DOC allows up to $50 per visitor (regardless of age), and it must be in bills only: $1, $5, $10, and $20. That money is strictly for snacks and beverages from the visiting-area vending machines. You cannot give any of it to an inmate.

Prescription Meds

  • Bring only the dose you need for the length of the visit.
  • Keep each prescription in its original pharmacy container.
  • Make sure the label is clearly readable and shows the medication type, dosage requirements, and the name of the person it was prescribed to.

Baby Items

  • Up to five (5) diapers
  • Up to three (3) clear baby bottles
  • Up to two (2) toddler sipper cups
  • Up to three (3) clear plastic jars of sealed (unopened) baby food

Note: Pack exactly to the limits, and pay close attention to packaging. Baby bottles must be clear, and baby food must be sealed (unopened) in clear plastic jars.

Anything not on the approved list, or any approved item over the allowed quantity, stays out of the visiting area. If the item isn't contraband or illegal, you'll need to find a secure spot for it yourself for the duration of your visit. Staff won't hold or store extra items for you.

Warning: Contraband or illegal items are never permitted. If something is classified as contraband or illegal, it won't be treated like a simple extra item.
