Can You Send Stamps or Money in a Letter? How to Put Funds on an Inmate’s Account (Lincoln)
Trying to help someone at Community Corrections Center – Lincoln? The rules around stamps and money trip people up fast. Here's what NDCS allows, what's off-limits, and the easiest way to add funds to an inmate trust account.
NDCS policy is clear: incarcerated individuals cannot possess postage stamps. Sending loose stamps "for mailing letters" won't work - your loved one simply isn't allowed to keep them.
Instead of loose stamps, NDCS provides pre-stamped envelopes. Each person can possess up to 40 at a time.
Pre-stamped envelopes are sold in the facility canteen. That's how most people inside stay stocked for letters.
Self-addressed stamped envelopes (SASEs) are only allowed in narrow circumstances. NDCS permits them from government agencies, attorneys or legal entities, publishers, vendors, religious headquarters, or educational facilities - but only when included as part of an approved correspondence course. Outside those categories, your loved one will need to use the facility's pre-stamped envelopes.
Money is even more tightly controlled than postage. NDCS prohibits incarcerated individuals from receiving money - in any form - from family or friends of other incarcerated individuals, or from anyone on another incarcerated individual's approved visiting list. If there's any chance you fall into one of those categories, don't guess. Use the approved deposit process and reach out for help if needed.
To add funds the right way, NDCS uses the GettingOut/ViaPath system for trust-account deposits. Payment services are provided by TouchPay Holdings, LLC d/b/a GTL Financial Services.
