Setting Up Your GettingOut Account: Step-by-step for Indiana families

Indiana is switching to a new platform for digital correspondence: GettingOut (ConnectNetwork's Messaging service). This is the account you'll use to send electronic messages and photos to your incarcerated loved one once they're on the updated system. Timing matters here. The rollout is happening in phases - incarcerated individuals at Indiana State Prison started receiving Command 5.0 tablets on December 10, 2024, with remaining IDOC facilities upgrading after the start of 2025. Even if your loved one's facility hasn't switched yet, setting up your account now means you'll be ready the moment their tablet goes live.

Setting Up Your GettingOut Account: Step-by-step for Indiana families
  1. Go to gettingout.com - Open a web browser on your computer and type gettingout.com.
  2. Click “Create Account” - This starts the sign-up process.
  3. Enter your date of birth and confirm your age - Type your date of birth as shown, then click the Confirm Age button.
  4. Click “Create Account” again - After you confirm your age, select Create Account once more to continue with the rest of the setup.

Once your loved one's tablet is active on the new system, you can add them in GettingOut and start messaging. Indiana State Prison began receiving Command 5.0 tablets on December 10, 2024, with other IDOC facilities upgrading after the start of 2025. If you can't find your loved one right away, their facility probably hasn't transitioned yet. Either way, you'll need a GettingOut.com account to send messages and photos through the new platform.

Note: Pictures and videograms sent through GettingOut must follow the facility's printed-matter requirements and IDOC's Offender Correspondence policy (02-01-103). Review those rules before sending anything - violations mean your message or photo gets rejected.
