Video Visits from Home: How to schedule and connect to an Indiana facility

Video visit options vary across Indiana facilities. Some locations support at-home video visits; others only offer on-site video stations inside the facility. Before you plan around a specific option, check what your loved one's facility actually offers and what rules apply.

When at-home video visits are available, you can connect using a PC, laptop, or Android mobile device. That flexibility lets you skip the travel, parking, and long lines.

Note: Video visit services and on-site rules vary by facility - some locations may not offer every option. Confirm availability and requirements before you schedule or travel.

Start with registration. You'll need a ViaPath account, and you must be approved before scheduling any visits - whether online from home or at the facility. If others will join the visit, make sure they're registered and approved too.

Watch the time zone when picking a date and time. ViaPath's scheduling platform uses Eastern Time for all facilities, even if yours is located elsewhere. Do the conversion before you confirm - otherwise you might miss your slot.

Tip: Sign in early and confirm your ViaPath account shows as approved before trying to schedule. Double-check the visit time in Eastern Time before you hit

Tech Checklist

  • Use a supported device for at-home visits: a PC, laptop, or Android mobile device
  • Sign in 15 minutes before your scheduled start time to test your connection
  • Check your audio and video so you’re not troubleshooting once the visit begins

Treat a video visit like an in-person visit when it comes to what you wear. You're required to have on a shirt or blouse, pants, shorts, or a dress, plus appropriate undergarments. Hats and head coverings aren't allowed unless required for religious reasons.

Clothing must be in good condition and not see-through. Worn-out, torn, transparent, or frayed items that expose undergarments aren't allowed. When in doubt, go with something simple and solid that won't shift on camera.

Note: Video visits follow facility visitation rules, including dress standards. If you don’t meet the requirements, the visit can be interrupted or ended.

Video visit pricing varies. Costs depend on the facility and visit length - some visits may even be free. You'll see any cost displayed when scheduling, before you finalize the appointment.

If your visit has a fee, you'll enter payment information to complete the booking. ViaPath accepts debit cards, charge cards, and Visa or Mastercard gift cards.

  1. Plan to arrive early - For an on-site video visit, get to the facility at least 15 minutes before check-in.
  2. Bring a valid photo ID - You’ll need it at arrival to check in for the on-site video visit.
