Before Your First Visit to Corrigan‑Radgowski: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
Your first in-person visit goes smoother when you bring the right documents and keep your pockets light. Use the checklist below to avoid delays at check-in—or getting turned away at the door.
Quick Checklist
- ✓ Bring a valid photo ID for every adult visitor.
- ✓ If you’re bringing a child under 16, pack the child’s birth certificate plus one additional document with the child’s name (like a report card or Social Security card).
- ✓ Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit so you have time to check in.
- ✓ Leave cell phones and other electronic devices behind (don’t bring them into the facility).
- ✓ Don’t bring clothing to drop off - family and friends can’t send or drop off clothing packages.
Every visitor needs valid photo ID to enter Corrigan‑Radgowski. No ID, no visit - even if you've driven hours to get there.
Bringing someone under 16? The facility requires extra documentation. You'll need the child's valid birth certificate plus one additional document with their name on it - a report card or Social Security card works. Have both ready at check-in to avoid a last-minute scramble.
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit. That buffer gives you time to check in - and it matters. Show up late, and your visit could be shortened or canceled entirely.
Before you leave home: Check the facility website the day of your trip. Visitation can be canceled at any time due to safety or security concerns.
Leave your phone and any electronics at home or locked in your car. Cell phones aren't allowed inside, and bringing one can end your visit before it starts.
Don't pack a bag of clothes to drop off. The Connecticut Department of Correction doesn't allow family or friends to send in or deliver clothing packages. The department provides clothing, and additional items can be purchased through commissary.
Staff will turn people away for clothing that doesn't meet the standard. Under Administrative Directive 10.6, attire must be reasonably modest. Revealing, seductive, or offensive clothing is treated as a security risk - and you'll be denied entry.
Skip state-observed holidays - no visits are held. That includes New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Plan for last-minute changes: Visitation may be canceled at any time for safety or security reasons, so verify status on the facility website before you travel.
