Three ways to send money to someone at Coyote Ridge (and which costs least)

Washington DOC recognizes three ways to fund an incarcerated person's trust account: Securus Debit, Western Union, or a cashier's check/money order. The decision is straightforward - go electronic when you can. Save paper deposits for situations where you specifically need or prefer that method.

  1. Select the right payee - Choose “Washington Dept Corrections.” Use City Code WA DOC and State WA.
  2. Enter the account number in the DOC format - Type the incarcerated person’s DOC number immediately followed by their last name (example: 123456Doe). Don’t add spaces.
  3. Match the last name exactly - The last name has to match the DOC database spelling exactly, even if it’s not the spelling you normally use.

Cashier Moneyorder Precautions

  • Do not send cash.
  • Do not send personal checks.
  • Do not send stamps.
  • If you mail any of the items above, the mail will be rejected and returned to you at the incarcerated individual’s expense.

For paper deposits, DOC accepts cashier's checks and money orders. One advantage: you can direct these deposits to specific sub-accounts - Spendable, Postage, or Medical - if the funds need to go somewhere particular.

DOC only accepts posted mail through USPS, UPS, and FedEx. When mailing a cashier's check or money order, keep it simple. Don't include cash, personal checks, or stamps - that mail gets rejected and returned at the incarcerated individual's expense.

Practical Tips

  • Confirm the last name spelling used in the DOC database before you submit a Western Union payment.
  • Use that exact spelling when you build the account number (DOC number + last name, no spaces).

Want fewer headaches? Go electronic. Both Securus Debit and Western Union are DOC-approved, and they sidestep the common pitfalls of mailing payments.

Warning: Mail containing cash, personal checks, or stamps gets rejected and returned - at the incarcerated individual's expense.
