Before Your First Visit to Crowley: What to Bring, What’s Prohibited, and the Dress Code
Your first visit to Crowley can go smoothly—just show up with the right ID, wear clothing that meets CDOC rules, and leave prohibited items behind. Use this checklist so you don't get turned away at the door.
If you're an approved visitor age 18 or older, you'll need valid picture ID to get in. Staff check it at entry - a photo on your phone won't work. Bring the physical card.
The ID requirement actually starts earlier, when you apply. Your visitor application needs a copy of a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, and the address on it must match what you put on the application. Mismatched addresses can get your application denied.
Tip: Bring your original, valid photo ID on visit day, and make sure your visitation application includes a copy of that same unexpired government photo ID with a matching address.
Crowley follows CDOC's dress code, which is specific about bottoms. Pant legs, skirts, and dresses must reach at least the top of your knee while standing. No shorts of any style. Cargo pants are also off-limits - even if they're your everyday go-to, pick something else.
Warning: If you show up in clothing that violates the dress code, your visit can be cancelled or ended early.
ID Prohibited Items
- ✓ Cell phones and other portable electronic communication devices (including tablets/iPads, smart glasses, pagers, and portable computers), unless specifically authorized by the DOC executive director
- ✓ Cigarettes, tobacco products, tobacco substitutes, vaping products, e-cigarettes, and vaping liquid
Leave prohibited items at home or locked in your car. Bringing banned electronics or tobacco/vape products into the facility can get your visit terminated - and repeated issues can jeopardize future visits.
Once inside, you're expected to follow CDOC visitor conduct rules and the dress code. Break them, and staff can cancel your visit on the spot. If something feels uncertain, fix it before check-in rather than risk losing your time together.
Violations can also affect future visits. After administrative review, suspensions run 30 days for a first offense, 90 days for a second, and one year for a third. That's why the dress code and prohibited-items list are worth taking seriously - even when they feel strict.
