Crowley says visiting application approval takes about 45 days on average. That's because applications don't just get processed at the front desk - they're routed through the Colorado Department of Corrections Private Prison Monitoring Unit (PPMU) for review. So weeks of waiting is normal, not a red flag. To avoid extra delays, double-check that your application is complete and legible before submitting. Missing info means it gets kicked back, and the clock resets.
What to Include

- ✓ Your signature on the application
- ✓ A copy of your current, valid government-issued photo ID (for adult applicants)
- ✓ Double-check that everything is filled out completely, because incomplete applications (or applications missing the ID copy) may be rejected
Approval isn't permanent. Under CDOC policy, active visitors go through a background check every year from the date of their initial application. There's another catch: if you don't visit for a full year, your visitor status gets automatically deactivated. You'd need to re-apply and clear the background check again before visiting.
Traveling a long distance or visiting infrequently? Ask about a special visit. CDOC handles these through a Special Visitation Application, which you submit to the address listed on the facility's page.
