What to Wear (and What Not to Bring) When Visiting Cumberland County Jail
Visiting someone at Cumberland County Jail goes smoother when you dress conservatively and leave everyday items locked in your car. Check the lists below so you don't get turned away at the door.
Cumberland County Jail enforces a conservative dress code. Staff can turn you away if your clothing is too revealing. Not sure if an outfit will pass? Go with something that fully covers and doesn't draw attention. Comfort matters, but getting inside matters more.
- ✓ Shirts or other apparel with writing
- ✓ Shorts
- ✓ Halter tops, bikini tops, or tube tops
- ✓ See-through clothing that reveals private body parts
- ✓ Clothing that exposes the bare midriff
- ✓ Miniskirts
- ✓ Pants worn below the waistline that expose the buttock area
Tip: When in doubt, dress more conservatively than you think you need to - no shorts, no revealing clothing, and wear pants at the waist so nothing is exposed.
Travel light. Cumberland County Jail restricts a lot of common items, so your safest bet is to lock them in your vehicle before you walk up to check in. This includes things you probably carry every day - certain personal items, accessories, and more.
- ✓ Metal or glass items
- ✓ Weapons (including pocket knives) and mace/pepper spray
- ✓ Briefcases
- ✓ Umbrellas
- ✓ Food or drink items
Warning: Don’t bring weapons or other prohibited items to the jail. You can be denied entry immediately if you arrive with them.
Cellphones aren't allowed inside Cumberland County Jail unless you have approval from the Jail Administrator. For most visits, plan to leave your phone in the car.
- Decide if you truly need a phone inside - the default rule is no cellphones in the facility.
- Request approval ahead of time - contact the jail and ask for Jail Administrator approval before you show up.
- Bring only what you’re approved to carry - if you don’t have approval, leave the phone in your vehicle.
Note: If you think you need an exception, get approval before your visit. Don't count on sorting it out at the door.
