How Many Times Can You Visit Someone in Dallas County Jail Each Week?

Each inmate at Dallas County Jail can receive up to two visits per week. There's also a daily cap: one 20-minute in-person visit per day. So even if you have a weekly visit left, you can't squeeze in two visits on the same day.

  • Keep the group small: no more than four people can visit one inmate at a time.
  • Plan the adult/child mix: each visit is limited to two adults and two minor children.
  • Know how weekends work for kids: children under 17 aren’t placed on the visitor’s card, but they may visit on weekends if they’re accompanied by an adult parent or legal guardian who is on the visitor’s card.

Video visits work differently than in-person visits, and the limits depend on where you're calling from. Off-site video visits have no weekly cap - a practical option when multiple family members want contact beyond the in-person schedule. On-site video visits are capped at two per week. Each video visit runs 20 minutes. That makes it easier to plan around work, childcare, or travel. Just remember: the weekly limit depends on which type of video visit you're using.

  1. Pick your date and time early - all video visits must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance.
  2. Schedule through Smart Communications - video visits are booked through the Smart Communications website, so don’t wait until the last minute.

The two-visits-per-week limit applies to regular visitation only. Attorney visits, law enforcement visits, and other professional visits don't count against that cap - unless a supervisor decides otherwise.

Practical Planning Tips

  • Coordinate with other family and friends so you don’t accidentally use up the two in-person visits for the week on overlapping plans.
  • If more people need face time than the weekly in-person cap allows, use off-site video visits since they aren’t restricted in number per week.
  • Build around the clock: in-person visits are capped at one 20-minute visit per day, so choose the day carefully if you’re traveling or taking time off.

Reminder: Video visits have a lead time. You’ll need to schedule at least 72 hours in advance through Smart Communications.
