Setting Up Free ACH Deposits for an Inmate Account (how it works and timing)

TDCJ offers a free Monthly Checking Account Debit (ACH) service that automatically pulls a set amount from your checking account each month. Once you set it up, you're done - no logging in to make payments every time. Your bank account gets debited on schedule, and the funds go straight to the offender's trust account.

Signup Items

  • Complete the TDCJ ACH authorization form
  • Attach a voided check for the checking account that will be debited

Fill out the ACH authorization form, attach your voided check, and mail both to: Inmate Trust Fund, PO Box 629, Huntsville, Texas 77342-0629.

The ACH debit typically hits on or around the 5th of each month. If you're watching your balance closely, make sure the funds are available by then.

TDCJ usually credits the deposit to the offender's account on or around the 10th. That gap between the debit and the credit is normal - don't worry if you see the money leave your account a few days before it shows up on theirs.

Need to change or cancel your ACH setup? TDCJ has a stop/change form for that. Fill it out and mail it to the Inmate Trust Fund as directed on the form.

Checklist Pitfalls

  • Completed ACH authorization form
  • Voided check attached for the account to be debited
  • Mail both to Inmate Trust Fund, PO Box 629, Huntsville, Texas 77342-0629

Timing tip: Debits usually hit around the 5th, and deposits typically post around the 10th. Expect a few days between when funds leave your bank and when they appear on the offender's account.

Not sure how deposits work with your loved one's specific situation? Contact the facility directly. Rules vary by location, and a quick call can save you time and frustration.
