How Attorneys Can Visit Clients at Danville City Jail
At Danville City Jail, attorneys can visit clients according to the jail’s attorney visitation schedule. The same schedule-based access applies to probation officers and parole officers visiting their clients.
Note: Plan your trip around the facility’s posted attorney visitation schedule - this is the default framework for professional visits.
If you need to see a client outside the posted attorney visitation schedule, you’ll need to arrange it with the Jail Administrator. Call 434-799-5130, ext. 6 to request an out-of-schedule attorney visit.
There’s also a separate option for setting visits at other times: attorneys (and ministers) may be able to schedule appointments by contacting the Adult Detention Center (ADC). This can be useful when you’re trying to coordinate around court, transport, or other timing constraints.
- Start with the Jail Administrator - Call 434-799-5130, ext. 6 to arrange an attorney visit outside the posted schedule.
- Request an alternate appointment if needed - Contact the Adult Detention Center (ADC) to ask about setting a visit time by appointment.
Attorney visits at Danville City Jail are confidential. If you’re meeting a client for the first time in custody, that confidentiality piece matters - your legal conversation is treated as a private attorney-client visit.
When you bring items for your client, keep the scope narrow: attorneys are only allowed to deliver legal material to inmates. If it isn’t legal material, assume it won’t be accepted through the attorney visit process.
- ✓ Tell the Control Room operator about any items you intend to give to the inmate.
- ✓ Expect those items to be searched before they’re passed along.
Tip: Even though the visit itself is confidential, you still need to disclose any items you’re delivering and plan for them to be searched. Bring only legal material to avoid delays.
