What You Can't Bring to Visiting at David Wade: Louisiana Contraband & Visitor Prohibitions

Visiting someone at David Wade Correctional Center goes more smoothly when you treat your pockets, bag, and car like they'll be checked - because they can be. Bring contraband into the facility and you can be removed from the visiting room. You may also face criminal prosecution.

Expect airport-style security, and then some. Visitors - including minors - can be searched along with their property and vehicle. The facility uses metal detectors and ion scanning equipment. Specially trained K-9 teams may also screen you before entering the visiting area and while you're inside.

Electronics

  • Cell phones
  • Pagers
  • SIM cards
  • Portable memory chips
  • Batteries
  • Chargers
  • Cameras
  • Video recording equipment
  • Audio recording equipment

Note: Electronics and recording devices are the kind of items screening is designed to catch - metal detectors, ion scanners, and K-9 searches may be used before you enter and during visits.

Leave anything that could be considered drugs or intoxicants at home. Controlled substances, alcoholic beverages, marijuana, and tobacco (including tobacco-related items) are all prohibited in the visiting area at David Wade.

Assume anything that could compromise security counts as contraband - especially weapons or weapon-related items. Bring contraband into the facility and you risk removal from the visiting room and criminal prosecution.

There's a narrow exception for medication: you can bring prescribed medication that's life-saving or life-sustaining, but only the amount needed for the duration of your visit.
