Why You Can't Check If You're on Someone's Visiting List By Calling David Wade (And What To Do Instead)

David Wade Correctional Center won't tell you over the phone whether you're on someone's approved visiting list. It doesn't matter why you're asking - staff simply don't provide that information to callers. Calling to "check your status" is a dead end.

This phone policy is part of how the facility manages visitation overall. Each institution controls its own visiting process, balancing security concerns with physical space limitations.

Not sure if you're approved? Contact the imprisoned person directly and ask them to confirm you're on their list. They're the ones who add visitors and receive approval information. Since the facility won't verify your status by phone, this is the fastest way to get a clear answer before making plans.

  • Use the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System (LAVNS) to locate the person assigned to David Wade Correctional Center.
  • Call the Imprisoned Person Locator at 225-383-4580 to be connected for location information.
  • Have the person’s DPS&C number ready, or their name and date of birth.
  • Ask for the housing assignment and the address of the facility where the person is located (including David Wade, if that’s where they’re assigned).
  1. Ask the imprisoned person to check their visiting list status - since David Wade won’t confirm visiting-list approval over the phone, the person you’re trying to visit is the right starting point.
  2. Have them speak with their counselor or unit staff if something seems wrong - they can ask staff to review the visiting list or explain the institution’s process for visiting approval.

Note: The Department's Offender Visitation regulation (OP-C-9) covers how visitation approvals are handled and reviewed.
