DeKalb County Sheriff's Office charges a $20 non-refundable fee on all bonds, regardless of how you pay. Factor that into whatever bond amount is set.
Using a professional bonding company? Their fee is separate from the bond itself. In DeKalb County, bonding companies charge 12% for bonds of $10,000 or less, and 15% for anything over $10,000.

After the case is settled in court, you'll pick up your cash bond refund at the Civil Process Unit (CPU) in the DeKalb County Courthouse, Room B110, 556 N. McDonough, Decatur, GA 30030. The CPU handles refunds weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - no weekends or holidays.
Refunds are strict about who can claim them. Only the surety - the person who posted the bond and whose name is on the cash bond receipt - can pick up the refund.
- Make sure the surety goes in person - the refund can only be issued to the surety named on the cash bond receipt.
- Bring a valid state-issued ID - the surety must have a valid state ID when requesting the refund.
- Bring the white copy of the cash bond receipt - the surety needs the white receipt copy to have the cash bond returned.
