Sending Money to Someone at DRDC: Approved Methods, Timing, and Withholding

If you’re sending money to someone at DRDC, stick to the Colorado Department of Corrections’ approved electronic partners. CDOC uses three vendors for deposits: JPay, Western Union, and GTL (ConnectNetwork). Using one of these options helps your deposit reach the person’s account without getting rejected or delayed.

  • Online with a credit or debit card
  • Over the phone with a credit or debit card
  • In person with cash at participating retail locations throughout the country

Timing matters. Money sent before 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time typically shows up in the inmate's account the next day. Send earlier if you need the fastest turnaround.

Even after a deposit posts, canteen access takes a bit longer. CDOC recommends allowing 2–3 days after the deposit before the funds are available for canteen orders.

If the amount received looks lower than what you sent, withholding is the reason. CDOC withholds a minimum of 20% from every deposit to cover court-ordered obligations - fines, fees, restitution, and child support owed by the incarcerated person.

Warning: Money orders and cash sent by mail won't be accepted. Use one of the approved electronic deposit methods instead.

Want to send items instead of money? Care packages go through Union Supply - the department's only approved provider.

Union Supply packages are set up as monthly orders. What you can send depends on spending limits tied to the inmate's facility or living unit, so check those caps before planning a purchase.
