Sending Money to Someone at DRDC: Methods, Timing, Vendors, and Care Packages

CDOC offers three ways to send money to someone at DRDC: online with a credit or debit card, by phone with a credit or debit card, or in person with cash at payment locations around the country. Pick whichever works best for you that day.

  • JPay
  • Western Union
  • GTL

Timing matters - especially for canteen. Deposits made before 4:00 p.m. Mountain Time are generally available the next day. Earlier is better.

Tip: If the goal is canteen, CDOC advises allowing 2–3 days after you deposit for funds to be processed and available for ordering.

Warning: CDOC does not accept money orders or cash sent by mail to inmates, so don’t mail either one expecting it to be posted to their account.

Want to send items instead of cash? Care packages go through Union Supply - the only approved provider for CDOC. Orders are placed monthly, up to the spending limits set for your person's facility or housing unit.

Care packages run on a monthly cycle, not next-day delivery. Packages typically arrive the month after you order. Miss the cutoff for one delivery period, and your order ships the following month.

One thing to budget for: CDOC withholds at least 20% of every deposit for court-ordered obligations - fines, fees, restitution, child support. So the amount your person can actually spend will be less than what you send.
