Physical contact at DRDC is limited, but it's not completely off-limits. You can share a brief hug at the beginning and end of your visit. A quick, closed-mouth kiss is also allowed - but only as a greeting and goodbye. These aren't meant to be ongoing throughout the visit.

Once you're seated, holding hands is allowed. If you want to keep things simple and avoid any misunderstandings with staff, stick with this during the visit itself.

Note: Breast-feeding an infant is allowed, but only in the designated area identified in the facility’s procedures.

  • Portable electronic communication devices are prohibited unless authorized by the DOC executive director (this includes cell phones, tablets/iPads, pagers, smart glasses, portable computers, and other devices capable of transmitting or intercepting cellular or radio signals).

Bringing contraband into the facility is a serious violation. If you're caught, you could lose your visitation privileges permanently - both in-person and contact visits.

DRDC uses a progressive suspension system for rule violations. After review, a first offense may result in a 30-day suspension. A second violation can bring 90 days. A third? One year. Some violations are classified as "major" because they threaten facility security - these can result in permanent suspension, skipping the step-up timeline entirely.

If staff have reasonable suspicion that you're carrying contraband - or if you have an outstanding warrant - you won't be allowed in. You may also be detained for Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigators or local law enforcement. Refuse to follow entrance or visiting procedures? You'll be denied entry and required to leave DOC property immediately.
