How Video Visits Work at Deschutes County Jail (scheduling, what to bring, and rules)

Deschutes County Jail uses video visitation for all social visits. Instead of sitting across from someone in a traditional visiting room, you'll connect through video stations located in each jail and Work Center housing unit. There are no face-to-face visits at the Deschutes County Jail or the Work Center. Even if you come on-site, the visit itself happens over video.

If you’re trying to use the free social visits, plan on doing them on-site at the Deschutes County Work Center (63360 Britta Street, Bend OR). That’s where the free on-site visiting option is conducted.

Scheduling Overview

  • Call ViaPath Customer Service at 866-516-0115 to schedule through TELMATE (ViaPath)
  • Log in to ViaPath online to set an appointment
  • Use the ViaPath cash kiosk on-site at the jail or the Work Center

Appointments fill up first-come, first-serve. If you want a specific day or time, schedule early - otherwise you'll be stuck with whatever slots are left.

Each inmate gets two free social visits per week. These free visits happen on-site only at the Deschutes County Work Center (63360 Britta Street, Bend OR) and last up to 30 minutes each. Plan around those two sessions - once they're used, any additional visits fall under the paid options.

Need more time? You can pre-purchase extended local visiting time (on-site) through TELMATE. To add funds, use the ViaPath kiosks in the facility lobby or Inmate Services area - cash, credit, and debit all work. You can also add money 24/7 through the ViaPath website or by calling ViaPath Customer Service at 866-516-0115.

Social visits run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with blackout windows for meals and headcounts. No visits happen between 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m.

Remote, off-site visits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You'll need your own webcam or similar device, and these sessions come with additional TELMATE fees and restrictions. Visitor limits depend on the visit type. For free on-site visits, an inmate can have up to two social visitors plus one baby or toddler on an adult's lap. Off-site visits have no limit on the number of social visitors.

Leave your phone and electronics behind. No visitor may take a cell phone or any electronic device into a visiting area.

Bringing a baby? You can take a limited supply of baby-care items with you. Strollers and baby carriers aren't allowed in visiting areas, so carry what you need by hand.

Note: You may be searched. If you refuse a search, staff won’t allow the visit, and your visiting privileges may be permanently revoked.

Assume everything is watched and saved. All video visits are monitored, recorded, and screened - including automated detection of third-party visits. If staff or the system catches forbidden behavior, consequences can be serious: loss of visitation privileges (including free visits), suspensions, and fines. When in doubt, keep the visit simple and stick to conversation.

  1. Contact jail staff immediately - If, during a visit, an inmate says or implies anything about suicide, self-harm, harming others, or being the victim of physical or sexual assault (or knowing another inmate who is), notify jail staff right away.
