Who to Call When You Have Questions About a Juvenile Case in Idaho
Trying to make sense of a juvenile case? The fastest way to get answers is calling the right place the first time. Here's who to contact for emergencies, non-emergency reports, school-related questions, district liaison help, and notification services.
If someone is in danger, call 9-1-1. Don't wait for a callback from an office line when safety is on the line - use emergency services.
Need to report an offense that isn't an emergency? Call the law enforcement agency's non-emergency phone number - you can usually find it on their website. If you already have a police report, even better. The report includes contact information for the peace officer involved. Reach that officer directly using the info on the report, or call the non-emergency line and ask to be connected.
For questions about something that happened at school - or if you need to reach a School Resource Officer - call the school where the SRO works. Most SROs can be contacted directly through the school's main number.
Not sure who oversees a program, who to ask about detention alternatives, or which local partner handles what? An Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC) district liaison is often your best next call. These liaisons serve as connectors between IDJC and local stakeholders - courts, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, schools, service providers, and juvenile probation and detention administrators. They also work with counties to develop alternative interventions, prevention strategies, and diversion programs that reduce unnecessary commitments to state custody and support transitions back to the community.
To reach a district liaison, contact Alicia Baptiste, District Liaison Supervisor, at 208-577-5443 or Alicia.Baptiste@idjc.idaho.gov. The District 4 liaison office mailing address is 954 W Jefferson St, Boise, ID 83702.
Need notifications about an offender's status? VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) is a free service from the State of Idaho. Register to be notified of an offender's release or transfer by calling 866-984-6343.
For state-level victim services, you have two options depending on what you need. For information on incarcerated individuals, email the Idaho Department of Correction Victim Services coordinator at prisonvictimservices@idoc.idaho.gov. For parole release information, contact Parole Victim Services at parolevictimservices@copp.idaho.gov.
- Pull the police report - look for the peace officer’s direct contact information listed on the report.
- Call the agency’s non-emergency line - if you can’t reach the officer directly, use the non-emergency number (often listed on the agency’s website) to ask for the right contact.
- Use the district liaison as your connector - if your questions are about local options, programs, or who in the county handles what, contact the IDJC district liaison supervisor (Alicia Baptiste) at 208-577-5443 or Alicia.Baptiste@idjc.idaho.gov to get pointed to the right people.
Have questions about services outside the courtroom - like community-based options or program availability? The district liaison is still a strong starting point. Their job is connecting IDJC with county partners and providers, so they can help you figure out what supports exist locally and who to call next.
