How to Register Your Phone to Receive Calls from an Inmate (for Dolph Briscoe Families)
If your loved one is at the Dolph Briscoe Unit, you can't just start receiving their calls. Your phone number needs to be enrolled first—and the information you provide has to match what TDCJ has on file.
Your phone number must be registered through the Texas Inmate Telephone Friends & Family enrollment before you can receive calls from a TDCJ inmate. Without enrollment, calls won't go through - even if the inmate adds you on their end.
You'll need the inmate's TDCJ ID number before you start. The system uses it to link your registration to the right person, and you can't complete enrollment without it.
Info Needed
- ✓ The inmate’s TDCJ ID number
- ✓ Your driver license or state ID name (it must match the name shown on your telephone listing or bill)
- ✓ Confirmation that you are the registered owner of the phone number
- ✓ Confirmation that you agree to allow the inmate to call that number
- ✓ Proof you’re eligible to register (you must be at least 18 years old)

Registration Rules

- ✓ Don’t use three-way calling
- ✓ Don’t use speakerphone during the call
Note: Calls are generally monitored and recorded. The exception is calls to the inmate’s attorney of record.

Name mismatches cause most registration problems. The name on your driver license or state ID needs to match the name on your phone account. If the phone is in someone else's name - or your name is spelled differently - update the account information before trying again.

Still not getting calls after registering? Check that your registration details match exactly - especially your ID name versus the phone bill.
