How to add or change names on an inmate's Visitors List (Dominguez guidance)

TDCJ caps each inmate's approved Visitors List at 10 names. That limit matters when you're trying to add someone new - if the list is full, adding a name means removing someone else first.

Note: Effective September 1, 2020, only people on the approved visitor list or the Inmate Telephone List are allowed to deposit money to an inmate.

At state jail facilities like Dominguez, TDCJ allows Visitors List changes once every 60 days. Miss the window or change your mind after a swap? You'll likely wait until the next 60-day period before another add or remove can go through.

This is different from "institutional" (non-state-jail) TDCJ units, where list changes are only allowed once every six months. If someone visiting a different facility tells you their timeline doesn't match yours, that's probably why.

Think of a visitors-list update as a tradeoff between space and timing. The list can't exceed 10 names, and state jail units only process changes once every 60 days. Be intentional about who you add, who gets replaced, and when you make the request.

  • Ask your loved one how many names are currently on their approved Visitors List (the maximum is 10).
  • If the list is already at 10, decide who needs to be removed so a new person can be added without going over the limit.
  • Plan around the state jail change schedule: add/remove requests can be made once every 60 days, so try to bundle changes instead of making one-at-a-time swaps.

These limits come straight from TDCJ's "Inmate Rules and Regulations for Visitation." That document defines the Visitors List and sets both key constraints: a maximum of 10 names, and a change schedule of once every 60 days for state jail inmates.

Been removed from an inmate's Visitors List? You can appeal in writing to the Director's Review Committee (DRC). Mail your appeal to: Director's Review Committee (DRC), PO Box 99, Huntsville, TX 77342.

Deadline: The written appeal must be submitted within 14 days of the date on the written notice of removal.
