How to send money and buy commissary items for someone at Dominguez State Jail
Helping someone at Dominguez State Jail with money or commissary takes some planning. You'll need to know who's allowed to send funds, plus the quarterly spending limits and fees for eCommDirect purchases.
Not everyone can deposit money for an inmate. Since September 1, 2020, only people already on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List can send funds. If you're not on either list, your deposit will be rejected. Confirm your status before trying to send money.
Don't send cash or personal checks to the Inmate Trust Fund - they won't be accepted and will be mailed back to you. Stick to approved payment methods so your money doesn't get stuck in transit.
eCommDirect commissary purchases have quarterly spending caps. For January–March, April–June, and July–September, the limit is $70 per quarter. October–December bumps up to $95 for holiday spending. Once the limit is hit, you'll have to wait until the next quarter to make more purchases.
Note: Newly received inmates can’t receive eCommDirect commissary purchases until the next calendar quarter.
Online deposits through eCommDirect cost $2.50 plus 2.25% of the deposit amount. The bigger the deposit, the higher the fee.
Each eCommDirect commissary purchase carries a $3.75 transaction fee. Placing several small orders adds up fast - fewer, larger orders save money on fees.
Cost tip: If you make a deposit and a purchase at the same time, the combined fee is $3.75 plus 2.25% of the deposit.
- Ask the inmate to add you to their Approved Visitation List - once you’re on that list, you can qualify as an approved sender for eCommDirect.
- Or register your phone to get on the Approved Phone List - contact Securus and register your phone so you’re placed on the Approved Phone List.
