What happens after you request to visit someone at Dominguez State Jail

Submitting a visitor request through the TDCJ Online Visitation Scheduler doesn't mean you're ready to visit. Your request goes through relationship verification first, and what you see in the scheduler tells you where you stand in that process.

What happens after you request to visit someone at Dominguez State Jail

When you add someone in the Online Visitation Scheduler and request approval, you’re sending a Relationship Request. That request is routed to the incarcerated person’s unit of assignment, where TDCJ staff verify the visitor/inmate relationship before visits can be scheduled.

One small detail trips people up: the inmate's TDCJ (SID) number must be exactly 8 digits. Too few digits, extra numbers, or a typo can prevent the scheduler from matching the right person when you submit.

On your Visitor Profile home page, look for the button next to the person's name. When everything checks out, you'll see "Schedule Visit." But if the relationship is confirmed and the inmate's visitation privileges have been removed, that button gets replaced with "Not Approved for Visits."

Two account setup details catch people off guard. First, you can't change your email address after creating an account, and the account can't be deleted - so pick an email you'll keep. Second, the Background Questionnaire requires answers to every question before you can move forward.

Watch for this message: If the relationship is confirmed but visitation privileges are removed, the scheduler shows “Not Approved for Visits” instead of the “Schedule Visit” button.

Sometimes "Schedule Visit" won't appear even when you're checking the right spot. The button might be blank or show "Call Unit" instead - that's the system's way of saying online scheduling isn't available for that person right now.

  • Create your own Online Visitation Scheduler account (TDCJ staff can’t create visitor accounts for you).
  • Look for the email with your 7-digit validation code and use it to complete registration.
  • Complete the Background Questionnaire - every question must be answered before you can move forward.
  1. Enter the correct 8-digit TDCJ/SID number - the scheduler requires the number to be exactly 8 digits.
  2. Submit the request for approval - once you confirm your relationship and submit, the Relationship Request is sent to the inmate’s unit of assignment.
  3. Wait for unit verification - TDCJ staff at the unit verify the visitor/inmate relationship after the request is sent.

Tip: Pick your account email carefully. Once an account is created for an email address, it can’t be deleted and the email address can’t be changed.
