How to Get Proof Someone Was Incarcerated — Records & Contacts at Douglas County Sheriff’s Office

The document you're looking for is called a Proof of Incarceration - it confirms someone was held in custody during a specific period. You'll need to request this form in person at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Records Division.

  • Plan to request the Proof of Incarceration form in person at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Records Division
  • Bring any identification or supporting documents you have that help staff locate the correct record (for example, the person’s full name and any booking details you know)
  • If you’re unsure what you’ll need at the counter, call ahead before you go so you don’t make a wasted trip

The Records Division is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you're working around a tight schedule, go earlier in the day. That gives you time to sort things out if you're missing paperwork.

A quick heads-up: the Records Division only maintains records created by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. They won't have records from other county departments. If what you need isn't a Sheriff's Office record, you'll have to contact the appropriate department directly.

For in-person requests, go to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Records Division at 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville, GA 30134.

Check the calendar before you go. The Records Division is closed on New Year's Day, MLK Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday), Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Trying to pay a citation? Don't go to the Sheriff's Office - they don't accept citation payments. Contact the Douglas County State Court Clerk's Office instead at 770-489-5232.

For civil process questions, know the limits upfront: the Sheriff's Office cannot place liens on property or report to credit bureaus. Questions about a writ of fieri facias or personal property levy? Contact Lt. Prince at 770-920-4902 or email jprince@sheriff.douglas.ga.us.
