Where to Send Mail to Someone at Douglas County Jail (Why There Are Two Addresses)
Douglas County Jail uses two different mailing addresses depending on what you're sending. Use the wrong one, and your letter could be delayed—or never reach the right account.
Why two addresses? Different types of mail get handled differently. Regular personal mail - letters, postcards, greeting cards - goes to Smart Communications at a PO Box, where it's processed for the jail's system. Legal mail and publications go directly to Douglas County Jail in Roseburg. Whichever address you use, include the Adult in Custody (AIC)'s name and booking/ID number. That's how the jail routes mail to the right person and account.
Note: All regular AIC postal mail (postcards, letters, greeting cards, etc.) is scanned into the Smart Communications system and made available for the AIC to view via Smart devices.
Double-check the basics on your envelope. The AIC's name and booking/ID number must be clearly printed on the outside so the mail posts to the correct account. Missing or hard-to-read ID numbers slow things down.
For regular postal mail (letters, postcards, greeting cards, etc.), address it to Smart Communications using these exact lines: Smart Communications / Douglas County Jail (AIC’s Name & ID#) PO Box 9213 Seminole, FL 33775-9213
For legal mail and publications, send it directly to the jail at this address: Douglas County Jail AIC Name & ID 1036 SE Douglas Avenue Roseburg, OR 97470
Reminder: Use the exact address lines above, and always include the AIC’s name and booking/ID number on the outside of the envelope or postcard.
Want to track what happens after you drop something in the mail? Douglas County Jail encourages friends and family to sign up for a free MailGuard Tracker account. You can check delivery status, get notified if your mail is rejected, and download copies of mail that's been received and processed.
- ✓ View delivery status for your mailed items
- ✓ Receive notifications if your mail is rejected
- ✓ Download copies of mail that has been received and processed
- ✓ Helpful context: regular postal mail is scanned into the system for AIC viewing on Smart devices
Why the two-address setup? Regular postal mail gets routed through Smart Communications first. There it's scanned into the system, then made available for the AIC to view on Smart devices. That's why personal mail goes to the PO Box - not straight to the jail.
One detail worth knowing for later: after release, AICs can log into the public Smart Communications website using their ID number and password. From there, they can download their photos, messages, and postal mail for free.
