Start with the automatic disqualifiers. You won't get in wearing layered clothing, ripped or torn items, or anything orange (that includes anything resembling what incarcerated individuals wear). Hooded clothing is off-limits too. Tank tops and revealing tops? A common reason people get turned away at the door. The facility enforces a general "no revealing clothing" standard. Think regular, full-coverage shirt - something you'd wear to a public office. Clothes that are too tight or excessively baggy can also get you denied. Aim for comfortable, size-appropriate pieces that won't need constant adjusting. Keep it simple and conservative, and you'll save yourself a wasted trip.

Warning: Skip orange entirely. Tank tops, tube tops, sleeveless shirts, and crop tops that expose your stomach or chest are frequent reasons people get turned away at check-in.

Your visit depends on clearing the metal detector. Everything you're wearing - including your shoes - has to pass screening. If something triggers the scanner and you can't resolve it, you won't get in. Footwear trips people up more than you'd expect. Steel-toe boots or shoes with metal supports can set off the scanner and end your visit before it starts. When in doubt, go simple.

  • Wear sneakers (strongly recommended)
  • Avoid shoes containing metal supports (for example, steel-toe boots)
  • Use the on-site lockers for items you can’t bring inside

Underwire bras aren't allowed. The metal can trigger the detector, and anything that prevents you from clearing the scan ends your visit right there. If you're unsure, choose a non-underwire option and keep your outfit as metal-free as possible.

The same logic applies to clothing with extra hardware. Pants with lots of metal buttons, rivets, or studs can slow you down or cause repeated alarms. Pick something with minimal metal and simple fasteners - you don't want to be troubleshooting your outfit at the front desk.

Keep jewelry minimal. You're allowed a wedding band and a religious medallion (no larger than two inches) on a chain - that's it. Piercings are prohibited, so remove them before you arrive. Don't count on talking your way through at check-in.

Note: Hats and hooded clothing can get you denied. Leave them in the car or a locker - stick to a plain top without a hood.
