What to Expect at Check-In and Why a Visit Might Be Denied at Duval Regional

When you arrive at Duval Regional, you'll sign in on the youth's Visitor's Log. Do the same when you leave. Staff use this log to track who visited and when the visit ended.

Everyone goes through an electronic search before entering the secure area. Build in a few extra minutes for this and follow staff directions during screening.

  • Keys
  • Purses
  • Packages

Note: Bringing unauthorized items into a detention facility is a third-degree felony. If you’re not sure whether something is allowed, leave it behind rather than risk a denied visit - or worse.

Bring a valid photo ID and have it ready at check-in. Without proper ID, you'll be turned away - even if you're on time and otherwise prepared.

What you wear matters. Visitors can be denied entry for inappropriate attire based on facility rules posted at the entrance. When in doubt, dress conservatively - simple, covered clothing with nothing that might get flagged at the door.

Behaviors Leading Denial

  • Being disruptive or uncooperative
  • Refusing to be searched
  • Refusing to comply with officer instructions
  • Being under the influence, or appearing to be under the influence, of any intoxicating substance
  • Failing to present proper photo identification
  • Attempting to introduce contraband into the secure area

Once you're inside, your visit can still be cut short if your behavior - or the youth's - becomes disruptive or violates facility policies. A terminated visit may also lead to suspension of future visitation privileges, at the Superintendent's discretion.

  1. Bring proper photo ID - if you can’t present it at check-in, you can be denied.
  2. Leave personal items out of the secure area - don’t bring things like keys, purses, or packages in with you.
  3. Cooperate with the electronic search - all visitors are subject to electronic screening before entering.
  4. Dress for the entrance rules - inappropriate attire (as outlined in facility procedures or posted at the door) can get you turned away.
  5. Stay calm and cooperative - disruptive or uncooperative behavior is a common reason visits are denied or ended.
