Why You Must Check In 60 Minutes Early at East Mesa Reentry Facility
Starting November 06, 2025, East Mesa Reentry Facility requires all visitors to check in 60 minutes before their scheduled visit time. This is a hard cutoff. Show up too close to your visit time, and you may not finish check-in before they turn you away.
The 60-minute rule only works if your visit is already booked. East Mesa requires reservations at least 24 hours in advance - no same-day scheduling. So if plans change last minute (work runs late, a kid gets sick, traffic backs up), you usually can't switch to a later slot that day.
Pay attention to when you can book. Social visit reservations are available online through the Sheriff's eVisit system Wednesday through Sunday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Prefer the phone? Call (619) 409-5000 Wednesday through Sunday, 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Once you have a confirmed time, build your day around it. You're not just arriving by the visit start - you need to be checked in a full hour before.
IDs Minors
- ✓ Valid photo identification for every visitor age 18 and over
- ✓ Keep your group size to 3 visitors total per visit (children count toward the 3)
- ✓ If a minor is visiting, bring a qualified adult: a parent, court-appointed guardian, or other adult with legal custody
- ✓ The qualified adult must have valid photo ID and be cleared for visits
Think you'll miss the 60-minute check-in window? Call the Custody Information/visit scheduling line at (619) 409-5000 as soon as possible (Wednesday through Sunday, 6:30 am to 6:00 pm). Explain the situation and ask about your options - whether you can still check in or need to reschedule.
Note: Visits require 24-hour advance booking with no same-day scheduling. Being late doesn't mean you slide into a later slot - it often means losing the visit entirely.
