Alabama DOC lists four ways to send money to someone at Frank Lee Community Based Facility: make a deposit online, make a deposit by phone, pay with cash at a CashPayToday retail location, or mail a money order with a deposit coupon (Money Order Deposit Form).
Need the money there fast? Skip the mail. Mailed deposits can take up to a week to process, while online, phone, and CashPayToday deposits typically post within 24 hours. Online and phone deposits through Access Corrections work with Visa or MasterCard debit or credit cards. CashPayToday is your best bet if you prefer paying cash in person at a retailer. Mailing a money order saves you the trip, but plan for that longer processing time.
- Create your Access Corrections account by using the Access Corrections website, or set it up by phone at (866) 345-1884.
- Choose online or phone deposit once your account is established, then follow the prompts to send funds to the person you are supporting.
- Save your transaction record after you submit the deposit. Access Corrections notes you will have easy access to a record of your transaction.
Access Corrections (Access Secure Deposits) accepts MasterCard or Visa debit and credit cards for both online and phone deposits.
Cashpay Steps
- ✓ Register yourself on CashPayToday before you go to a payment location.
- ✓ Register the recipient you want to send money to on CashPayToday before you go to a payment location.
- ✓ Pick a nearby CashPayToday retail site. Alabama DOC notes there are 800+ locations statewide, including places like Dollar General and Family Dollar.
- Get your barcode after you register. CashPayToday locations accept either a printed barcode or a barcode image on your phone.
- Bring the barcode to the register and present it when you are ready to pay cash.
- Tell the clerk the payment type by saying you are making a “VANILLA DIRECT PAY” bill payment, then tell them how much you are sending.
To send money by mail, include a money order and the Money Order Deposit Form (deposit coupon). Mail both to: Access Corrections, Alabama DOC, P.O. Box 12486, St. Louis, MO 63132. Fill out the deposit form carefully. The instructions warn you to complete all fields and verify the recipient's name and ID. If staff cannot determine the proper recipient, the money order or check will be returned.
Mailed deposits can take up to a week to process, so this is not the best choice if funds are needed quickly. There is also a daily mailed deposit limit of $900.00 per deposit.
Note: Do not send cash, letters, stamps, photos, or notes along with the money order or check.
If a money order or check is returned, there is a $25 handling fee. Double-check the deposit form details before mailing to avoid getting hit with a return.
For larger deposits, federal law requires the sender to provide their Social Security Number for deposits (or combined deposits) of $3,000 or more.
Troubleshooting
- ✓ If you are mailing a money order, complete every field on the Money Order Deposit Form and verify the recipient’s name and ID. Missing or mismatched info can lead to a return.
- ✓ If timing matters, avoid mail. The deposit form notes mailed deposits can take up to a week, while other options can deposit funds within 24 hours.
- ✓ If you need help using Access Corrections by phone, support is available at (866) 345-1884. The deposit form also notes you can speak with a live, bilingual agent.
