Before Your First In-Person Visit to Placerville Jail: What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Placerville Jail is at 300 Forni Road, Placerville, CA 95667. If it's your first time, plan your route and parking with extra time - you don't want to be rushing at the door.

Visiting is split into three sessions. Morning runs 8:00 AM–11:00 AM, afternoon is 1:00 PM–4:00 PM, and both are available every day. Evening visits (7:00 PM–10:00 PM) are only offered Monday through Thursday.

Don't plan to arrive at the tail end of a session. Placerville Jail enforces firm final check-in times: 10:30 AM for morning, 3:30 PM for afternoon, and 9:30 PM for evening. Miss the cutoff, and you can be turned away - even if visiting hours haven't technically ended.

Note: Visits are first-come, first-served. Planning an evening visit? Call (530) 621-6000 ahead of time to confirm it hasn't been canceled for the day.

ID Documents

  • Minor children must bring identification (for example, a birth certificate or school ID).
  • A minor’s ID must show the child is legally related to the visitor or the inmate.
  • Minor children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times, unless the child is visiting their parent.

If you have the inmate's booking information, bring it. It speeds things up when you're confirming the right person - whether you're calling ahead or handling mail and account questions.

Only one visitor can see an inmate at a time. The exception: minors can be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, so you won't have to choose between visiting and watching your child.

Prohibited Items

  • Leave cell phones behind - they aren’t allowed in the visiting area.
  • Don’t bring cameras or any electronic devices into the visiting area.
  • Skip handbags and other personal bags.
  • Leave writing supplies at home or in your car.
  • Don’t carry books into the visiting area.
  • No food or beverages in the visiting area.
  • Store anything you can’t bring in your vehicle, or use the lobby lockers.

Good to know: If you use a lobby locker, the locker key may stay on your person during your visit.

The dress code applies to everyone - men, women, adults, and kids - and staff will turn you away if you don't meet it. Keep clothing covered: no bare backs, chests, or abdomens. Skip tank tops, half tops, spaghetti straps, and bathing suits. Shorts, skirts, and dresses must hit mid-thigh or longer. Sheer fabric and visible undergarments aren't allowed. Gang attire is prohibited, shoes are required at all times, and nothing goes on your head - no hats, bandannas, or beanies.
