Before Your First Visit to Placerville Jail (Placerville, CA): What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

In-person visiting at Placerville Jail runs daily in two daytime blocks: 8:00 AM–11:00 AM and 1:00 PM–4:00 PM. Monday through Thursday, there's also an evening block from 7:00 PM–10:00 PM.

Plan around the final check-in cutoffs: 10:30 AM for mornings, 3:30 PM for afternoons, and 9:30 PM for evening visits. Show up too close to the end of a session and you won't be allowed in. Aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before the posted end time.

Heads up: Visiting at Placerville Jail is first-come, first-served, so arriving earlier gives you the best shot at getting in.

Planning an evening visit? Call ahead to make sure visits haven't been cancelled for the day. Placerville's number is (530) 621-6000. For Tahoe, call (530) 573-3030.

Bring valid identification - you'll need to show it before you're allowed in. A driver's license works, or a birth certificate paired with a photo ID.

Only one visitor can be with an inmate at a time, with one exception: a minor can accompany their parent or legal guardian. Bringing a child? They'll need ID too - a birth certificate or school ID works - and it must show they're legally related to you or the inmate.
