Note: At Elayn Hunt,

Plan to travel light. Prohibited items and personal possessions like your wallet, purse, and cash need to stay in your locked vehicle for the full visit. If you bring them up to the visiting area anyway, you may be sent back out to your car before you can continue.

Medication rules are stricter than you might expect. Only life-saving or life-sustaining prescriptions are allowed - and only enough to last through your visit. If you rely on something essential, bring just what you need and be ready to explain it at check-in.

  1. Tell the visiting desk staff you have medication - you’re required to advise institutional staff at the visiting desk if you’re in possession of medication.

Expect screening when you arrive. Everyone - including minors - may be searched. That means your person, your belongings, and your car. The facility uses metal detectors and ion scanners. Trained K-9s may also be present, both at the entrance and in the visiting room.

Reminder: Because searches can include your vehicle and your belongings, leave electronics (including phone parts like SIM cards and chargers), alcohol, tobacco, and controlled substances locked in your car - don’t bring them to the gate.
