What You Can't Bring to Elayn Hunt (including rules for prescription medication)

Elayn Hunt follows Louisiana DOC contraband rules - and they're strict about anything telecommunications-related. If it can communicate, store data, record audio or video, or power those devices, leave it in the car.

  • Cellular phones
  • Pagers
  • Beepers
  • Global satellite system equipment (GPS/satellite devices)
  • SIM cards
  • Portable memory chips
  • Batteries
  • Chargers
  • Cameras or recording devices

Medication has its own set of rules. Only prescribed medication that's life-saving or life-sustaining may be permitted during visitation. Bring just enough for the length of your visit, and tell staff at the visiting desk during check-in that you have it with you.

  • Bring only prescribed medication that is life-saving or life-sustaining
  • Carry no more than the quantity you’ll need for the duration of the visit
  • Advise institutional staff at the visiting desk at check-in that you’re in possession of medication

Heads up: Show up with medication that doesn't meet the rules - or forget to disclose it at the desk - and you risk being treated like you brought contraband. That means losing your visit.

Prohibited items can end your visit before it starts. Phones, SIM cards, memory chips, chargers, batteries, cameras, and recording devices are all considered contraband. Staff will refuse entry or stop the visit if they find them during screening.

Medication reminder: Declare your prescribed, life-saving or life-sustaining medication at the visiting desk and keep the amount limited to your visit. Those two steps help you avoid problems at the gate.

Think you have a special circumstance? Handle it before you drive out. Don't show up hoping for an exception at the door - call ahead and get clear guidance from staff.

  • If you need prescribed, life-saving or life-sustaining medication, bring only what you need for the visit and declare it at the visiting desk during check-in
