Mailing Letters and Books to Elkhart County Jail: A Sender's Checklist

Address your mail to: Elkhart County Corrections Center, 26861 C.R. 26, Elkhart, IN 46517.

  • Write the incarcerated person’s complete first and last name.
  • Include your complete first and last name and your full return address on the envelope.

Elkhart County Jail scans all regular (non-legal) mail. Your letter gets scanned and delivered electronically to the person in custody - they won't receive the original paper. After scanning, the original may be destroyed.

Warning: Address labels and stickers aren't accepted - your mail will be returned.

Every piece of mail needs a complete return address with your full name. Also include the incarcerated person's complete first and last name. If something can't be accepted and there's no return address, it has nowhere to go.

Mailing Letters and Books to Elkhart County Jail: A Sender's Checklist

Books must ship directly from an approved publisher or vendor. The approved list: Harper Collins Publishers, Simon & Schuster, Hamilton Books, Book Outlet.com, Christian Book.com, Sureshot Books, Artscroll, and Nolo. If the book doesn't come straight from one of these sources, it won't be accepted.

Note: Packages from retailers like Amazon, Target, or Walmart are returned to the sender instead of being accepted.

Build in extra time. The jail doesn't process mail on Sundays, holidays, or during facility emergencies - so delivery may take longer than you expect.
