Sending Money to an Inmate at Elkhart County Jail: Lobby Kiosk vs. JailATM

Elkhart County contracts with outside vendors - JailATM and Securus - for inmate services, including deposits. Your two options: the lobby kiosk (an ATM-style machine inside the corrections facility) or online deposits through JailATM.

The lobby kiosk is an ATM-style machine inside the corrections facility. You can deposit cash or pay with a credit or debit card.

The kiosk won't give you cash back, but it prints a receipt and makes funds available immediately. That's helpful if you're trying to cover commissary or other account needs right away.

  • $3.75 convenience fee is charged for each kiosk transaction.
  • There’s no overall deposit limit at the kiosk, but the $3.75 fee is imposed for every $100 deposited.
  1. Create your JailATM account - you’ll set it up using your email address.
  2. Sign in when you’re ready to add funds - the same account is used each time you come back.
  3. Make an online deposit with a card - JailATM lets you deposit to the inmate’s account using a credit or debit card.

Note: Money orders are no longer accepted for Elkhart County inmate accounts.

Sending Money to an Inmate at Elkhart County Jail: Lobby Kiosk vs. JailATM

Already at the jail - or need the money available now? The lobby kiosk is your best bet. It takes cash and cards, prints a receipt, and posts funds immediately. Just know there's a $3.75 convenience fee for every $100 deposited. JailATM works better if you can't make it to the lobby or prefer handling things from home. You'll create an account with your email and pay by credit or debit card. Either way, skip money orders - Elkhart County doesn't accept them for inmate accounts anymore.

  • Use the lobby kiosk if you’re on-site and want funds available immediately (you’ll get a receipt).
  • Plan for the kiosk fee: $3.75 per transaction, imposed for every $100 deposited (even though there’s no overall deposit limit).
  • Use JailATM if you want to deposit from home after setting up an account with your email address.
  • Pay by credit/debit card for online deposits through JailATM.
  • Don’t send a money order - money orders are no longer accepted for inmate accounts.

Warning: Elkhart County no longer accepts money orders for inmate accounts, so stick to the lobby kiosk or JailATM deposits.
