Common Questions

Q
Can an inmate receive incoming phone calls?

At Henderson Detention Center, ICE states that detainees cannot receive incoming calls. For NDOC facilities, NDOC’s phone information focuses on setting up prepaid calling accounts through ViaPath/ConnectNetwork so your loved one can place outgoing calls. If you are unsure what system applies, start with the facility’s phone provider instructions and set up the prepaid option listed for that facility.

Q
Where should I send mail for someone at the Washoe County Detention Facility?

Washoe County states that inmate postal mail must be sent to Smart Communications / Washoe County Detention Facility, [Inmate Name] (# Inmate Number), PO Box 9163, Seminole, FL 33775-9137. It also states this routing was effective 04/25/2022, and that mail received at the facility after May 8, 2022 will be returned to sender.

Q
How long until money I send by money order is available to the inmate?

For NDOC, funds from money orders and cashier’s checks received directly by NDOC are available to the offender fourteen calendar days after receipt. NDOC ties this hold to increased counterfeit activity.

Q
Can I mail books, photos, or care packages?

NDOC states that books and calendars are approved to be mailed to offenders with limitations (it refers to AR 711 and AR 750 for details). NDOC also states that if it offers an item through Canteen or the AccessSecurePak program, outside items are prohibited from being mailed to the offender, and clothing or food packages must be ordered through approved programs instead.
