Mail, Packages, Books, and Court Clothing Rules — Erie County Jails
Missing a detail on your mail or items? That's enough to get them delayed or rejected. The rules below cover how to address letters correctly, send reading material, and handle packages and court clothing without surprises.
Include the incarcerated person's full name and ICN number on every piece of mail (the ICN is printed on their bracelet). Send it to: Erie County Holding Center, 40 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, New York 14202. If the name or ICN is missing or doesn't match, your mail can be delayed or returned.
Books, magazines, and newspapers are accepted through the mail only. Don't try to bring printed materials in as a drop-off. Magazines must be dated for the current month and in new condition. All printed items are reviewed for safety and security. Anything that raises concerns may be forwarded to the Superintendent's Office for a final decision.
You can't drop off clothing or packages in person at Erie County Jail Management Division facilities. Any incoming package must be purchased from, and shipped by, a commercial vendor whose regular business includes selling and shipping those items.
- ✓ Only one incoming package of permitted clothing items is allowed per stay.
- ✓ The allowed quantities differ for males and females, so check the facility’s published limits before you place an order.
Erie County's inmate package ordering has moved to the Access Secure Pak website. If you're placing an order, use Access Secure Pak (not the older county packages site).
- Plan your drop-off for a weekday - Court clothing drop-off and exchanges are Monday through Friday only.
- Use the morning window - You can drop off or exchange court clothing from 7:00 AM to 11:15 AM.
- Use the afternoon window - You can also drop off or exchange court clothing from 12:30 PM to 2:15 PM.
Limit: Only two outfits are allowed for trial court clothing. Orange clothing is not permitted.
