Estes Unit Visiting Hours: When You Can Visit and How Long Visits Last

Planning a visit is easier when you know the exact window TDCJ allows and how the two-hour visit clock works. Here's how to time your day so you get as much face-to-face time as possible.

The Estes Unit follows TDCJ's standard weekend visitation schedule. Visiting hours are Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. That's the overall window when visits can take place. You'll still want to plan around check-in time and any unit-specific procedures that affect when you actually get seated.

A regular (contact/general) visit lasts two hours. The clock starts when both you and the inmate are present, not when you pull into the parking lot or get in line. If processing takes a while, your actual visit can feel shorter. Arriving early helps protect your time together once your loved one is brought out and the visit officially begins.

TDCJ also offers remote video visits through a kiosk, scheduled through the vendor's website. This option is separate from contact/general visits for eligible inmates and may occur once per month for up to 60 minutes. If travel is tough, it's a practical backup. Just keep in mind the once-a-month limit, so schedule thoughtfully.

Securus remote video visits are a separate program with their own pricing and limits. Each visit costs $10.00, lasts 60 minutes, and inmates are limited to one per month. Even though it's not in-person, treat it like a timed appointment. Be ready when the session starts so you don't lose any of that hour.

Verify Before Travel

  • Confirm the inmate is assigned to the unit you plan to visit.
  • Verify the unit visitation schedule and confirm visitation has not been canceled.
  • Call the unit for final confirmation before traveling.

Note: Even with the standard weekend hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), visitation can be canceled. Call for same-day confirmation before you make the drive.
