Visiting Evans Correctional Institution takes some planning, but the process is straightforward once you know the steps. Starting June 1, 2025, adults 18+ with a valid South Carolina driver's license can register online. Minors and visitors without a South Carolina ID must use paper applications and provide relationship documentation. All visits are scheduled through the SCDC/GTL scheduler, and you can only book if you're on the inmate's approved visiting list (the inmate starts approval with Form 19-127). Weekend in-person visits run in two-hour blocks between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Evans allows contact visits. General population inmates with privileges get one visit per weekend and up to four in-person visits per month. Bring the right child documentation, expect search procedures, and note that vending is cards-only (since July 1, 2024). Cancel at least 48 hours ahead so a missed visit doesn't count against the monthly total.

Virtual visits at Evans Correctional Institution run through GTL. If you're on the inmate's approved visitation list, you can request a visit, but you'll need to create your own GTL account using the exact name shown on that list. Appointments must be scheduled at least 3 days and no more than 7 days in advance. Slots are first-come, first-served. You can modify a visit up to 2 days before and cancel up to 1 day before. Supported devices include computers, tablets, and Android phones (iPhones are not compatible). Evans Correctional Inst. accepts GTL money orders for inmate trust accounts. Make the money order payable to GTL Financial Services (it gets forwarded to SCDC), and keep each money order in U.S. dollars with a $300 maximum. For mailed deposits, fill out the GTL money order deposit form and mail it along with the money order to the Dallas, Texas address printed on that form. Need a faster option? Mailed deposits are processed the next business day after the processor receives them.
