How Virtual Visits Work for Evans Inmates (Scheduling, Devices, and 2025 Rates)
Virtual visits at Evans are straightforward once you know the rules: you need to be on the inmate's approved visitation list, schedule within a specific window, and have a compatible device. Here's how it all works, including the updated 2025 pricing.
You must already be on the inmate's approved visitation list to request a virtual visit at Evans. Once approved, you can schedule through the system. If you're not on the list, you won't be able to book one.
Everyone who plans to appear on the visit needs their own GTL account - even if you'll be sitting together during the call. Set up your account at scdoc.gtlvisitme.com/app. One important detail: your name must match the approved visitation list exactly. No nicknames, shortened versions, or alternate spellings. Mismatches will cause problems when you try to visit.
The scheduling window at Evans is tight. You need to book at least three days ahead, but no more than seven days out. Slots fill on a first-come, first-served basis, so request early to get the time you want.

- ✓ Cancel a scheduled virtual visit up to one day before the visit.
You can use a computer, tablet, or Android phone for Evans virtual visits. iPhones aren't compatible right now - if that's all you have, borrow a different device before your visit time.
Tip: Be in front of your device 15 minutes before the visit starts so you’re ready to connect on time.
Where you take the call matters. Evans prohibits virtual visits from bedrooms, bathrooms, nightclubs, and similar locations. Not sure if your spot is appropriate? Stick to a neutral space like a living room or kitchen so you don't risk losing the visit.
Note: Virtual visits are recorded and may be reviewed. If anything inappropriate happens, the visit can be ended immediately.
SCDC announced a pricing change effective Feb. 1, 2025: virtual visits now cost $0.16 per minute. A 50-minute visit works out to $8.
You may still see older FAQ language listing a flat $10 charge for a 50-minute visit. That conflicts with the Feb. 1, 2025 SCDC memo, which is the newer update and sets the rate at $0.16 per minute.
