Why Your Virtual Visit Got Terminated: Rules, Recording, and Prohibited Behavior

A virtual visit can end abruptly if your location or on-camera behavior breaks the rules. At Evans Correctional Institution, visits are recorded and can be reviewed for appropriateness. Knowing what triggers an immediate shutdown (and what puts future visits at risk) can save you a lot of frustration.

Reasons Terminated

  • Behavior or actions that are sexual in nature
  • Any display of nudity
  • Use or display of drugs, alcohol, or weapons

Note: If inappropriate actions occur during a virtual visit, the visit will be terminated immediately.

Getting terminated isn't always the end of it. Inappropriate conduct during a virtual visit can also lead to a suspension of visitation privileges. That means you may not be able to schedule or complete future virtual visits for a set period of time.

Prohibited Locations

  • Bedrooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Nightclubs (and similar venues/locations)

If your call was cut off right after it started, take a hard look at where you were sitting. Bedrooms and bathrooms are specifically listed as prohibited locations for virtual visits. Those settings raise privacy and nudity concerns that staff will not allow on camera. Pick a neutral space that looks appropriate for a monitored call, and move the device before the visit begins.

Virtual visits are recorded and subject to review for appropriateness. What happens on your screen can be checked not just in real time, but after the fact as well.

Because visits can be reviewed later, even a "small" issue can carry bigger consequences than you'd expect. If inappropriate actions occur during the session, staff can terminate the visit on the spot. Serious or repeated problems can also put your visitation privileges at risk and lead to a suspension, even after the visit has already ended.

  1. Be in front of your device 15 minutes early. At Evans, you should be in place in front of your electronic device 15 minutes before the visit start time.
  2. Set up before the timer starts. Get your camera positioned and your space ready so you are not scrambling at the beginning of the call.
  • Choose a neutral, appropriate place to sit before the call connects
  • Do not join from a bedroom
  • Do not join from a bathroom
  • Do not join from a nightclub or similar venue/location
  • Keep everything on camera non-sexual and appropriate, behavior or actions that are sexual in nature are prohibited
  • Make sure there is no nudity on screen at any time
  • Do not use or display drugs, alcohol, or weapons
  • If inappropriate actions occur, expect the visit to be terminated immediately
  • Know that violations can also lead to a suspension of visitation privileges

Quick tip: Log in and be ready 15 minutes early. Assume the session is recorded and could be reviewed later.
