Facility 8

Facility 8 uses Securus Video Connect, a web-based system for scheduling and joining video sessions through the free Securus app or a computer browser. Beyond live video, Securus also lets you send messages, photos, eCards, and short video clips—handy for everyday check-ins or celebrating special occasions. Set up your account on the provider's platform before you try to book anything. If video visits are prepaid, you'll need to add funds through the app and register for video service before scheduling. During statewide or provider transitions, confirm in the app which system Facility 8 currently supports.

Sending money to the Kern County Sheriff's Civil Section? Use an accepted payment method and double-check the recipient's name and any booking or case details first. The Civil Section accepts money orders and cashier's checks payable to "Kern County Sheriff"—money orders must be filled out completely. Personal checks are only accepted if they're pre-printed with the maker's name and address, dated current, and written by a party to the action (not a third party). Out-of-state personal checks aren't accepted. Don't mail cash—it's only accepted in person at the counter. Mailed coins are limited to one roll per transaction. Fees must be prepaid unless you present a valid court-issued fee waiver at the time of service. No refunds for amounts $10.00 or less. Posting times and third-party vendor fees vary.

For public records requests, submit in person, by mail to 1350 Norris Road, Bakersfield, CA 93308, or by email to cprarequests@kernsheriff.org. Use the right channel for your issue—intake lines handle custody or location questions, while Records handles release, property, or records matters. Have the incarcerated person's full name, any aliases, and date of birth or booking/ID number ready. For records or property requests, bring a government-issued photo ID and follow the Records Unit's submission rules.

Need the Sheriff to serve non-writ processes? Submit original written instructions signed by the attorney of record or the plaintiff, along with a complete document set for each person being served and copies for the Sheriff's file. Signatures must comply with CCP 262—substitute signatures aren't accepted, though facsimile signature stamps may be allowed in some cases. Plan ahead: the Civil Section should receive your documents at least 10 days before the last day for service. That gives them time to process the request and return the Proof of Service by your court date. For bank levies and writs of execution, include the original writ, original instructions, payment for service, any applicable writ declaration, and specified copies. Service fees are collected even if service is unsuccessful.
