What You Can't Bring to FCI Cumberland: A Visitor's Checklist
Visiting FCI Cumberland goes smoother when you travel light. Use this checklist to avoid common items that can get you turned away at the door.
Quick Checklist
- ✓ Weapons
- ✓ Explosives
- ✓ Drugs
- ✓ Intoxicants
- ✓ Currency
- ✓ Cameras of any type
- ✓ Recording equipment
- ✓ Telephones
- ✓ Radios
- ✓ Pagers
- ✓ Electronic devices
These items are listed as prohibited on the Bureau of Prisons visitor notification form. The easiest way to avoid problems? Leave anything on this list at home or locked in your car before you reach the entry area.
If you travel with medication, plan ahead. The visitor notification form requires you to list everything you're carrying - medication name, dose, and why you have it. Be ready to write this down.
Note: Any medication you bring must be listed on the form and left at the entry area. If you rely on medication during travel, bring your prescription information so you can accurately declare it.
When you enter - or even attempt to enter - Bureau of Prisons grounds, you're consenting to a search under Bureau policy and federal regulations (28 C.F.R. Part 511). This covers you and your belongings.
Refuse a search, and you can be turned away from Bureau grounds entirely. That means your visit ends before it starts.
What you wear matters. Inappropriate, provocative, or revealing clothing can get you denied entry. Stick with conservative, non-revealing choices that won't draw attention or slow down check-in.
Tip: Think simple and modest - covered shoulders, reasonable hemlines, nothing see-through or very tight. Skip clothing with extra or hidden pockets that could raise questions during screening.
The visitor notification form warns that false statements carry serious penalties: a fine of up to $250,000 and/or up to five years in prison under 18 U.S.C. § 1001.
The visiting area - including restrooms - may be monitored to maintain security and order.
