How FCI Englewood's Visiting 'Points' System Works
FCI Englewood uses a monthly
At FCI Englewood, inmates at both the FCI and the FPC get 40 visiting points per month. Think of points as the facility’s way of tracking how much visiting time gets used in a month, so your loved one can spread visits out instead of having everything unlimited.
Time can add up quickly because weekends and holidays cost more. At FCI Englewood, visits on weekends and holidays are charged at two points for each hour of visiting. Practically, that means a longer weekend visit uses up the monthly balance faster than the same amount of time would on a day that isn’t priced at the weekend/holiday rate.
The other piece that catches people off guard is rounding. At the FCI, FDC, and FPC at Englewood, any visit that goes over 15 minutes is treated as a full hour. So if you only stay a little past the 15-minute mark, it still counts the same as an hour for point purposes. If you’re trying to stretch points across the month, it helps to plan visits with that cutoff in mind - either keep it truly short, or make the time worth the full-hour charge.
Legal (attorney) visits are handled differently. At FCI Englewood, legal visits do not count toward the monthly visiting point total, so they won’t reduce the points your loved one has available for regular social visits.
- Confirm the monthly points are used up - This process applies when your loved one has reached the point total for the month and still wants additional visiting time.
- Fill out an “Inmate Request to Staff” form - The inmate (not the visitor) must complete this request.
- Address it to the Unit Manager - The request has to be submitted to the Unit Manager for consideration.
- Include the visitor’s name and the reason - The form should clearly state who the visitor is and why the additional visit is being requested.
