How to Get on an Inmate's Approved Visiting List at FCI Lompoc
Getting approved to visit at FCI Lompoc starts with one key step: the person you want to see must add you to their visiting list. Then the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) runs a background check before you're cleared to visit.
You can't just show up at FCI Lompoc and request a visit. The inmate has to place you on their approved visiting list, and the BOP has to clear you first. No clearance, no visit. Handle the list step before you make travel plans.
The process starts with the inmate. Contact them and ask to be added to their approved visiting list. Give them your full legal name exactly as it appears on your ID. Keep the inmate's register number handy so you're both referencing the same record while the BOP processes your clearance.
BOP clearance comes with strict security rules. By entering - or even attempting to enter - Bureau grounds, you consent to being searched under Bureau policy and federal regulations (28 C.F.R. Part 511). Refuse a search, and staff can turn you away from the facility grounds or visiting area.
- ✓ Weapons
- ✓ Explosives
- ✓ Drugs
- ✓ Cameras (of any type)
- ✓ Recording equipment
- ✓ Telephones
- ✓ Radios
- ✓ Pagers
- ✓ Electronic devices
Note: Visitors acknowledge that the visiting area - including restrooms in the visiting area - may be monitored to ensure institution security and good order.
Answer all visitor paperwork truthfully. The BOP's visitor notification form warns that false statements can result in serious penalties - up to a $250,000 fine or five years in prison under 18 U.S.C. § 1001.
Documents and Medications
- ✓ Your full legal name
- ✓ Your relationship to the inmate
- ✓ The inmate’s register number (confirm it with the inmate)
- ✓ A list of any medications you’re carrying
Bringing medication? You'll need to list it on your visitor form and leave it at the entry area. Staff track everything that comes onto Bureau property, and visitors can't carry controlled items into the visiting space.
Before you travel, verify the current visiting schedule. BOP institutions generally offer visiting on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (sometimes weekdays too), but the actual schedule varies. Some facilities limit which day you can visit. Check FCI Lompoc's posted visiting hours before you leave - showing up on the wrong day means no visit.
