What You Can't Wear When Visiting Someone at FCI Lompoc

Dress code is one of the easiest ways to lose a visit. Use this checklist to avoid getting turned away at FCI Lompoc.

At FCI Lompoc, clothing that staff consider provocative or revealing can get you turned away. Think of it this way: dress like you would for a public setting with men, women, and children present. That's exactly what the visiting room is. If you're unsure about an outfit, go more conservative. You don't want to spend your visit time changing clothes or driving back home.

Checklist

  • Revealing shorts
  • Halter tops
  • Bathing suits
  • See-through garments of any type
  • Crop tops
  • Low-cut blouses or dresses
  • Miniskirts
  • Skirts two inches or more above the knee
  • Backless tops
  • Dresses or skirts with a high-cut split
  • Leotards and spandex garments
  • Clothing that looks like inmate clothing (khaki or green military-type clothing)
  • Hats or caps

Reminder: FCI Lompoc can deny visitors for provocative or revealing clothing. See-through garments of any type are specifically not allowed.

One thing people overlook: color and "uniform-like" styling. FCI Lompoc doesn't allow clothing that looks like inmate attire (khaki or green military-type clothing). Skip anything that could be mistaken for that look. When choosing between two similar options, pick the one that's clearly everyday civilian wear.

  1. Do a quick see-through check - Hold the item up to light and consider what it looks like when you bend or sit. See-through garments of any type are generally not permitted.
  2. Choose coverage first - Avoid crop tops and low-cut blouses or dresses, even if you plan to “adjust” them throughout the day.
  3. Pack a simple backup layer - A plain top or sweater in the car can save the trip if your first choice ends up being too revealing.

If you're turned away at FCI Lompoc because of what you're wearing, stay calm. Ask staff exactly what the problem is: how short, how low-cut, or how revealing. Getting a clear answer helps you fix it quickly and avoid the same issue next time.

  1. Remove what you can immediately - If you are wearing a hat or cap, take it off before you try to proceed.
  2. Change into a backup outfit if you have one - Swap into something more conservative if you brought options.
  3. Try again or reschedule - If you cannot fix it on the spot, plan for a different outfit next time so you do not risk being denied again.

Note: Staff decisions on clothing are based on safety and decency standards. When in doubt, plan for conservative coverage so you don't lose your visit.
